Jamaica

March 1, 2010

If my father had been there
we’d have been naming trees
in Latin, or Hungarian

and if my mother had been there
we’d have been
photographing hummingbirds

But If my lover had been there
we’d have been lying in the sand
with the salt and the almonds

and if Damali had been there
we’d have been drinking rum
and watching the ocean

if Tim had been there
we’d have been talking
about Scott

if Brinder had been there
we’d have been talking
about Jat

and If I was still there
I’d be sitting on the veranda,
I’d be thinking of my father

and seeing the ocean
and Leicester in Winter,
Leicester at night.
