Man at the Bar

April 2, 2010

His movements are small
eyebrows like
Jack Nicholson
they arch with suspicion
he wears a jacket
leans on the bar.

There’s a woman dancing
with a black bob
and a tweed coat.
She jigs in jeans
drinks vodka and coke.

She looks at the man
with the black leather jacket
she tries to catch his attention.

The man
with the black, leather, casual jacket
stands with his back to her.

He stands with a whiskey
he knocks it back.
He lost something
a long time ago.
His face is a map
of woven calico
he hasn’t recovered.
